Substance Abuse Treatment Center


    On November 19, 2011, Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic was honored to be one of the beneficiaries of the Builders Ball, held at the National Building Museum. Proceeds of  $54,000 were donated in support of our Boys Recovery Lodge program and its renovation. We are grateful to the local building industry for its generous support!

CARF Re-Accreditation:

We are happy to announce that Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic has been re-accredited by CARF for another three years, expiring 12/31/13. The survey team noted the agency's ongoing commitment to its clients and awarded us the maximum length of accreditation.

WE ARE NOW PART OF PHOENIX HOUSE!.  As noted in this space previously, on November 1, 2010, Vanguard Services Unlimited affiliated with the Phoenix House Foundation and since that time has been known as Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic. Our programs have remained the same and continue to provide the excellent treatment for which we are known.  We have now completed our first successful year of this affiliation and are off to a great start in year two. Battling a substance abuse disorder can be an ongoing and difficult journey. Fortunately, Vanguard Services Unlimited, a 501(c) 3 treatment center is here to help.

For more than 40 years, Vanguard has been on the front lines in the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction right in our community.

Founded in 1962 in an Arlington, Virginia church basement, Vanguard is the area's leader in addiction recovery and prevention, operating inpatient and outpatient programs throughout metropolitan Washington, DC. On any given day, more than 200 adolescents and adults are enrolled in our outpatient and residential treatment programs. In addition, we are engaged in drug and alcohol education and prevention programs reaching hundreds of additional families, adults and adolescents alike.

As the oldest and one of the most successful nonprofit substance abuse treatment centers in the area, Vanguard is proud to offer home, help and healing to people struggling with addictions. Since our founding, we have helped more than 30,000 men, women and adolescent teens overcome their substance abuse problems, rejoin their families and lead productive, fulfilling lives.

Vanguard Services Unlimited, a non-profit, community-based organization, offers high-quality treatment and recovery services to individuals and their families who are suffering from the effects of substance abuse. With over 47 years of dedicated service to people regardless of their economic status, Vanguard seeks to help our clients become healthy, productive, self-sufficient citizens. Committed professional staff, board members, and volunteers provide excellence in service to those in need.

Vanguard has a 65 percent completion rate, exceeding the national average.

In addition, more than 70 percent of Vanguard clients who complete our treatment for substance abuse remain in recovery, when surveyed 90 days following graduation.

We watch our graduates change old habits to rejoin their families, jobs and communities and lead productive, fulfilling lives.
